Oh, Helvetian Ones, we salute you! You just have to love the drummer on steroids that the Swiss band Eluveitie1 employs. This guy seems to work himself from one frenzy to another on his drums. But then, ’tis the drummer’s fate on fast-moving metal pieces, right?

Helvetios yet again combines modern-day and archaic instruments into a savvy mix of red-hot Melodic Death Metal and olden folk. Pagan or Folk Metal that dissolves into Chrigel Glanzmann’s heavy growls and rumbles, seconded by the angelic voice of Anna Murphy. That’s pretty tasty, ain’t it? Usually, I am not too fond of the metal-band-in-a-cave theme with extended theatrics by hairy metal band dudes and dudettes. Yet here, first ’tis a modern cave with screens, so they’re forgiven.

But more importantly, the riffing and the stellar … [...] Click to raid more!

There is such a thing as the sophomore cliff for record releases. A blackened metallic rock that any new band somehow must navigate around with their second full-length record. Because failing that, they may not reach those stellar future hunting grounds that will make them stinking rich1. Yet sadly, many a band inexplicably shipwrecks on those accursed submerged reefs.

The RMR crew followed Xael around pretty much since its inception. But somehow the band never quite made it to a full review. Their debut full-length record The Last Arbiter only netted them a short article. A write-up that … [...] Click to raid more!
