Aeons - The Ghosts of What We Knew - Album Cover

Now, wait a minute. The Isle of Man usually shines with its rebellious streak and – those totally crazy bike races. You know, these maniacs roaring about narrow country roads and trying not to end up as road kill.

But there’s more. Aeons dwell there, too. A band on the edge of prog with serious boy-band issues. And a knack for straying into nu territory and insisting on anything ‘core’. The RMR crew called them a band at a crossroads on Consequences, their last record. And the question is, have Aeons passed beyond their past alleged sins? Purgatory or … [...] Click to raid more!

Only that the majority of those records feels like a maniacal Barbie Cheesefest for grownups with a metal twist. And that netted some big bands like Amaranthe the might of our terrible banhammer. Theirs is just too much of a money grab with overdone tropes1 that we all heard a gazillion times before.

So, the RMR review desk’s loath to … [...] Click to raid more!

Aw, Njord have merci on my blackened cold metal soul. I just listened a few times to the Curse of the Crystal Coconut, Alestorm‘s latest bag of goodies. And now my head is spinning.

Well, our famous Scottish pirates are at it again, ever questing about the wide-open seas as swiftly as the fair winds allow. Albeit that a few signs of aging become all but too apparent throughout the record.

Now, Sunset on The Golden Age and No Grave but the Sea were true steam machines. They gorged with golden ideas and truly funny and irresistible lines … [...] Click to raid more!
