Ha! Yet another candidate for the RMR n00bs section. Never too old to be one, you know. Dark Tranquility is yet another of these old metal warhorses that never made it onto the RMR review pipe. Thus, for us, they’re firstcomers despite the band’s undeniable contribution to the holy books of The Lore ov Metal. After all, they’ve been in business since 1991 – and continually so. And again, we shall look at Endtime Signals without regard to what came before.

Okay, let’s not bury the lede for once. Gojira absolutely smashed it over at the opening of the July 2024 French Olympics. An astoundingly powerful Death Metal performance in front of a felt billion people. The devil’s music on full display and the evening crowd in an uproar. And the RMR crew loved every second of it.

Controversy and pushing the envelope were clearly on the menu throughout the performance. Artistic director Thomas Jolly probably pushed his very own ideas of diversity at all costs a bridge too far. His statement that he wanted to – and I quote – … [...] Click to raid more!

A webzine like RMR gets a ton of review requests every day of the week, Saturdays, Sundays, and Bank Holidays included. And this often leads to difficult decisions about what and who to review. Who can resist a record that features someone called Percival? We couldn’t. Promises of old lore with Peredur1 and King Arthur. Misty sagas of even mistier origins lost in the tunnels of time.

But that wasn’t the only attribute that lured us into faraway Canadian lands. It’s Osyron‘s feisty and harsh brand of Progressive Metal that piqued our attention, too. Same as a few other bands of similar ilk that crossed our hawse earlier this year.
