It is their number 10 in over thirty years, right? Well, fuck me running. This feels like yesterday when we first started to listen to their sound.

And Hardwired…To Self-Destruct – managed through Metallica‘s vanity label Blackened Recordings – comes along some 8 years after their last full-length record. They are taking their sweet time, don’t they? But then, they always have.

The wicked prophet is loose with his donkey again, facing the sword-wielding angel! Or something of that nature. And in Switzerland to boot.

If an EP serves – as the lore goes – to show the skills of a band in their early days, then the Swiss band Xaon hit dead center with their upcoming, self-released album Face of Balaam. Expecting some watery metal concoction, I was stopped dead in my tracks by this tsunami rolling over me. And by Loki, these guys serve an intense and aggressive brand of their favorite metal.

So, what have we here? Some sort of modern-time Hakkapeliitta yelling “Ei! Ei! Oh!” as they storm the stage? Scary! And it does not seem to fit, now, does it? This band is coming from Finland, not Japan.

But then again it does: ‘Cause it’s called Samurai Metal, that’s what!

I must say, this piping hot and spicy miso soup Whispered have created with their third album Metsutan: Songs of the Void will fill your metal heart with joy.
