RMR just enjoyed a modern-day Atmospheric Black Metal record. A brand of atmoblack without the smelly shrouds of the dreaded underground. Artfully filthy1), with soaring melodies, and a pint or two of sorrow. And, of course, all technically outstanding with nary a perfectly styled hair out of place.

Yet, there are times when a spiffy production isn’t what our dark souls crave. Instead, we yearn for that fearsome grime and grit. And truly so, Elderblood‘s Achrony does its first impression credit. After yet another useless intro, The Great Fire of Sacrifice leaves no doubt where this is could be leading. Down-in-the-pit, harsh, reasonably blasphemous Black … [...] Click to raid more!

Death Metal and Rogga Johansson are one of a kind. If there’s anybody in the metal multiverse who qualifies as an ambassador for that specific genre, he definitely is da man.

This guy doesn’t just make his brand of favorite music, he actually lives it. The list of active band projects is so long, it gives you a headache just to browse through them. To name just one, Paganizer, with its rough Death Metal offering, is probably the best-known outfit he successfully haunts.

And – of course – Mr. Johansson here already crossed our hawse a few times in … [...] Click to raid more!
