Ah, we got ourselves another one. 2024 seems to be the year of early metal and gritty rock that wafts straight up from the ’80s. New interpretations from bands who should know better than to rehash the past. But then, I’ve seen many a youngster embrace the olden and golden times of young Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. And those are people I know personally, not some odd acquaintances on Social Media. So, these ‘young’ bands embracing old-style rock ‘n’ roll may be on to something after all.

Gotland are one of these bands. They’ll release a record and wait for an inordinate amount of time to push the second out into the world. Nine years this time, to be precise. In the meantime, the band floated about the RMRsphereTM for a while with an offering here and there. And once the RMR reviewers thought them dead and gone, they suddenly appeared with grand tales. Or is it just a Fata Morgana of grandeur?

By the Dark Lord and his glowing trident. This is the week of Black and Death Metal hybrids. The RMR crew just reviewed one – and it wasn’t all that pretty. It is difficult to sync both styles and not kill the essence of the record in the process.

I have a confession to make. RMR is a chocolativore. Sweet-flavored mana from the gods, aphrodisiac, and a divine vessel for rituals, this stuff has been consumed in liquid or solid form for ages. So, how could we resist the siren call of a band calling itself Godiva?

Now, we have two choices, either the name relates to the famous lady and her nude ride or the chocolate brand of the same name. The crew here just blatantly voted for the brand. I wonder why.
