There is a plethora of Progressive Rock and Metal bands out there with an ever-growing progosphere to boot. Yet, today’s prog gets dangerously close to the state of being predictive.

Some think good prog needs to be djents, and only djents, plus some high-pitched wailing. Others profess that only chaos will pay homage to the mighty gods of progressive nirvana. Loki preserve us – forsooth!

Music videos are legion. You find all sorts, usually with bands showing off in egocentric theatrics. Jumping about in wild metal bliss, as if the punk movement got some sort of satanic revival.

Only some bring real sustenance to a metal heart with its sometimes unholy hunger. Those deliver stellar film work, supported by their trademark tune. And others just bring you an intriguing sound that will stick to you like this elemental living in your attic. The one that will haunt you every night.

This sounds like a homecoming, folks. Good, soothing old Heavy Metal with no holds barred. The metal equivalent of motherhood, apple pie, and the flag. 

Listening to this sound gives you this warm, cozy feeling of past good times, doesn’t it? Well, maybe not, if you are not old enough to remember.

This latest offering of Ghost Avenue harkens back to the times when the ’80s were deliriously high on NWoBHM and all its bands. Many of them are still around, alive and kickin’ to this day. Well, then again not quite that many anymore, as we just saw a few important departures in 2016.

Ah, the Italian metal scene just never ceases to amaze me. From the mountainous foothills of the upper North to the very bottom of the heel, you will find a plethora of metal bands. Their styles are as diverse as the geographical spread they cover. From deep, dark Black Metal over airy Symphonic to Pagan Metal – you have them all.
