Is this a case of Yet Another Extreme Metal Band? A ubiquitous metal offering of the garden variety in approach and execution? 

This often comes to mind when a new jewel case of an Extreme Metal band is cracked open and the metal starts to spill out. Seen it, heard it, got the black t-shirt with the unintelligible darkly magic scripture emblazoned on the front. A record with much of the same brand of metal all over again. With almost no difference from the usual and commonplace delivery of their brethren.

You surely remember one Tomas Börje Forsberg. This is at least how he called himself back in time. Forsberg was more famously known by the moniker Quorthon, and as the founder of the Black Metal turned Viking Metal band Bathory. This band released some truly mysterious and electrifying stuff back in their time. Until their leader’s demise in 2004 at the age of 39 years put a brutal stop to things, that is.

It indeed looks like Italy will be up top for Black Metal these days of early fall 2017. RMR just covered the New Age Black Metal outfit Parodos. A band that does not fit the Norwegian definition of this genre at all. Yet the outfit still gets you an interesting mix of styles that includes at least some spiked fisting. And they managed to keep enough of our deck crew’s interest to get them a review.

Do you remember Gone In April?

Back in 2016, the US/Canadian band unchained their sophomore album Threads of Existence. A sturdy, yet dark Gothic and Symphonic Metal piece that garnered quite some attention in the RockmusicRaider officescape.

Well, they continued to work on their material and just unlocked the doors to their new video As Hope Welcomes Death – located at mid-point in the tracklist.
