Receiver - Whispers of Lore - Album Cover

I have a confession to make. Receiver here almost got the boot, plucked out of the muck of our review pipe, and unceremoniously dismissed. And I blame the quality of the promo preview that returned a horrible tinny sound. Luckily, things improved once we got our hands on a real copy. Never brutally judge something by its first appearance, right? So very true.

Thus, Whispers of Lore got some real love over here after a few spins. And for cause. The record combines (some of) the exuberance of Splintered Throne with the galloping machinations of Iron Maiden. All of … [...] Click to raid more!

Rorcal - Silence - Album Cover

When I first read the title of Rorcal‘s newest pile of filth, I had to laugh. Silence – the contrary to what one expects from any of this band’s vanta black offerings. In fact, peace and quiet is what you will yearn for once the record is done with you. And it comes with a whopping 42 minutes of insane heaviness, so take heed.

Methinks we just covered another one of Sergio González Catalán‘s musings. And sure enough, it was Winds of Tragedy, the blackened branch of this one-man band’s two-sided artistic spigot. Yet, the RMR crew had some reservations about that one with some elements that wouldn’t quite fit the mold.

Now, Rise to the Sky is back with Catalán on safe territories he knows best. And that is Doom Death Metal filled with weeping strings, soaring guitar riffs, and the relentless raw roar that is the man’s trademark. Every Day, A Funeral already impressed us with its sorrowful prowess. A … [...] Click to raid more!

Raider - Trial by Chaos - Album Cover

One would think that anything with ‘Raider‘ in its band name should get onto this webzine. Something like – immediately because the RMR crew over here usually has a soft spot for namesakes in metal band multiverse. Yet, the folks at the review desk were pussyfooting about the record for long months without rhyme or reason. Too much aggression in one record or just abject laziness? I guess, we’ll never know. They’re a tight bunch over there. Chaotic trials straight ahead.

Alright! If you’re looking for measured slightly oldish Death Metal à la Rogga Johansson, Raider ain’t … [...] Click to raid more!
