Zeit – Konvergenz (2017) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Zeit - Konvergenz - Album CoverThe old provinces of Eastern Germany seem to be a hotbed for interesting bands of all kinds. Indeed of all things cultural – and beyond. And this goes for theatrical endeavours as well as music of all flavors.  The RockmusicRaider crew had the pleasure to cover special underground bands like Antyra from Leipzig already. You know, these guys with their rough and eerily weird, yet fascinating story-telling techniques. With an extremely epic, but very down-to-earth metal taste. I love them, but they are so out of the mainstream that not many of the RMR fans will follow. It is a special kind of geekery, I admit.

And – indeed – underground breeds more underground.

The German Black Metallers Zeit (time) not only hail from the same location. But they sport an inherent rebel streak and we like that at RMR. In other words, the radar blip on our search-and-review screen just got bigger once we learned about that little detail.

Zeit became conscious of this mortal coil in the unholy year of the lord 2010. Konvergenz is their first full length album after one demo and a smattering of EPs. And I daresay their style and delivery matured compared to former concoctions. Yet they still insist on delivering their very own style and not be confined by others into boxes. [...]  Got hooked? Forteresse – Thèmes pour la Rébellion (2016) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Forteresse - Thèmes pour la Rébellion - Album CoverI am usually not all too impressed by the scratchy, noisy, lo-fi Black Metal concoctions most of the underground bands liked to throw at us back in time. Their light has gradually waned over time, but you still find a considerable community still today: The hidden-in-the-woods outfits, only allowing a handful of copies to reach the world of us unworthy earthlings.

And some of them delivering on ancient cassette tape sound support only, still today. Forsooth! Kind of eclectic, these days, when you gotta hunt around the attic to find a player. If you own one still at all, that is. Most of these outfits still live by their old code and modus operandi. Bands like Darkend actually perform a ritual – black mass – more than offering music to the informed metal public.  [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!

Intermittent Digest – Tome III

RockmusicRaider - Intermittent Digest - Tome IIIHowdy, fans and friends! Months have passed again way too fast since the last point of the situation (as we say in French) and already it is time to halt the horses again and take stock. The first full year @ RockmusicRaider – 2015 – has passed and we start to approach mid-year 2016. By Loki, things are moving fast and I am not getting younger. So, what happened since Tome II. I can say one thing: Dark, dark is the going, when the going gets tough.

Felt waves of Black or blackened Metal are coming our way. I am amazed – seems to be a sign of the times. Rorcal Creon Album coverJust check out Rorcal with κρέων (Creon) that visited the RockmusicRaider site real brutally. Those tracks left blood on the walls and streaks on the ground, echoing around the corridors even when the music was turned off. At the end of the day, all this Black Metal dissonance turned out to be a historical theme park of sorts. If this is possible at all. What really threw me is the fact that they somehow dwell on the wrong side of Geneva in Switzerland. For those knowing the city a somewhat difficult concept to comprehend.

Then late in 2015, we found an unknown band on our promo list called Batushka with Litourgyia. Blasphemous bastards taking on the orthodox church in a way that just reduced me to aRockmusicRaider Review - Batushka - Litourgyia - Album Cover helpless heap of mirth. And they promptly made it on the 2015 Top Ten Records of the RockmusicRaider blog. THIS is Black Metal the way it is supposed to be played. Trademark anonymity and all to boot – to this day nobody knows who they are really. This record is still and often played on the mighty RockmusicRaider Media Machine. Keep going guys, this is just good stuff. [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!
