The sun’s shining, early summer just broke out over here, and this reviewer really doesn’t feel like covering some Doom Metal piece. This is the time when you yearn for some neat, happy metal. But, alas, Draconian‘s irresistible siren call just reached this crew.

And it is a new version with – surprise – Lisa Johansson back in session. And that’s a reason to celebrate. Her vocal powers may well be better suited for the current Draconian fare. A few months after the RockmusicRaider blog really took off, Draconian‘s Sovran happened. This is probably THE record that shaped our take on Doom and Gothic Metal in any significant way. And way more than their famous brethren Paradise Lost or My Dying Bride ever would.

Chiefly, Sovran impressed us with this sludgy heaviness. This sepulchral march towards the ultimate state of sadness. Something that immediately connects with your inner sorrow. But it is also true that this record was and still is relatively close to the aforementioned two of the Peaceville Three and distinct Melodic Death Metal masters.… [...] Click to raid more!

2016 was a pretty good year for all things doom, methinks. RockmusicRaider just released a review on the US band Khemmis and their kind of progressive and melodious doomy self. And – wham – here we go again. 

The fearless RMR scout team just unearthed a tasty morsel of a similar ilk from very late in 2016. But mostly delivered in best, growly Doom Death Metal fashion – with clear vocals and croaks expertly mixed. And the team here thought that the slowly chugging beat of My Dying Bride could not be bested.
