By the end of 2022, the RMR reviewers realized that Xaon‘s latest record – The Lethean – never quite made it onto our swampy review pipe. And in truth, what record in its right state would want to dwell in that steamy sump just to be lost forever, right? So, with enough material to last a lifetime, we concocted the 2022 top ten list, sadly without Carson’s boyz.

Fast forward to late 2023. A few weeks back we tortured our eardrums with the Black Metal act Félonie, and happened across Red Beard Studios. Another of Rob Carson‘s … [...] Click to raid more!

Sorcerer - Reign of the Reaper - Album Cover

The 2015 record In the Shadow of the Inverted Cross immediately got our full attention. The release marked the moment when Sorcerer finally came out of hibernation for real. After five years of trying to decide what they wanted to become since 2010, the year of resurrection of the band after a long time of stop ‘n’ go and deep freeze. That’s a generation of waiting for – some new Black Metal. And that let the RMR review desk almost recommend this band for this year’s lamestream award series. Almost.

Because here’s to a band that stood proud more or less at the heyday of the old Scandinavian Black Metal movement. Created at a time when church burnings were rampant and Black Metal was populated by truly lost souls. But then, those … [...] Click to raid more!

Rorcal - Silence - Album Cover

When I first read the title of Rorcal‘s newest pile of filth, I had to laugh. Silence – the contrary to what one expects from any of this band’s vanta black offerings. In fact, peace and quiet is what you will yearn for once the record is done with you. And it comes with a whopping 42 minutes of insane heaviness, so take heed.

Welcome to one of the vilest shards of some sort of Blackened Noize from Hell that 2023 threw at us to date. And there’s nothing pretty to see here. Ready? Jump right in if you … [...] Click to raid more!
