Sarcoptes - Prayers to Oblivion - Album Cover

Sarcoptes do like it dreary – and brutal to a fine point. Already their rough-hewn EP Plague Hymns was a friggin’ scorcher and it landed them straight on the 2020 Top 3 year-end list for EPs.

And the band truly does like its themes, too. There’s no light or joy left in that dystopian and depressive end-of-world view of theirs. Grim topics such as disease, endless war, massacres, and catastrophes abound. That’s their daily rotten bread. All of that served with a mighty stew of gore and tribulation and an avalanche of energy to turn Anaal Nathrakh yellow1 with … [...] Click to raid more!

To say that Uburen‘s 2016 piece Frå Døden Fødes Liv didn’t impress us much would be an understatement. This earlier record foisted a sub-par production upon the unsuspecting listener that was almost painful to endure and – thus – it got brutally ditched by a still young RMR webzine. The band’s 2019 follow-on record And the Mountains Weep also found some tough love and fell through the cracks pretty miserably at the Review Committee’s desk.

Sometimes the terrible Gods o’ Vile Metal are merciful. They often curtail the most brutal records to a length usually reserved for EPs. But it is for a good cause. Because how would you possibly survive such an onslaught of molten alloy for a full hour or more? So, less is indeed more for once.

And if the offering is juicy enough, we will blatantly ignore the instructions on EPs handed down from management, and just go ahead with a full review. And this here record truly qualifies.

Winds of Tragedy indeed surprised us with a short ‘n’ brutal piece … [...] Click to raid more!

Stargenesis - Distress Call From Earth - Album Cover

In early 2023 a big splash was recorded out of the swampy depths of our review pipe. Stargenesis just crashlanded in the midst of all those slithering creatures covered with age-old muck. As a good earth-bound galactic starship must, in a way.

And to our very own distress, 83 minutes of airtime just revealed themselves. Will those bands ever learn or don’t they just care? You see, it’s awfully difficult to forge some decent record out of so much material and NOT lose the audience in the process. So, what will we find? Total overload of ever-returning tedious tropes or … [...] Click to raid more!
