The band’s newest album Indomitvs just delivers whatever my black metal heart desires this dark morning. Right up there with the likes of Batushka‘s Litourgyia or the ritualistic Darkend.   

Their menu: Traditional Black Metal in all its unholy Northern splendor. And this without a lot of the current-day theatrics that we have to put up with.

Chameleons rule. Small lizards prone to sneak about trees, to look at you weirdly, and change color whenever it suits them. The terror of insects of any kind – one hit of their sticky tongue and their victims are history. Well, that’s the animal kingdom.

But you find them not only there, but also with our brethren in Rock and Metal. Perhaps not as deadly, but for sure very capable to shed skins and change color at a moment’s notice.

Wasn’t I just cruisin’ along these older and newer Hard Rock and Heavy Metal records? Boring down well-worn wormholes to them offerings always does my soul good. And stellar rock and metal they used to produce, and some still do to this day.

So, surfing about my review pipeline later I came across a sound reminiscent to what I just heard. On Top is their name and their new EP Top Dollar is their game.

There’s a new wave going on. Some sort of a tsunami of bands of the gritty, down ‘n’ dirty rock kind. Occupying spots US bands usually liked to sit on. And hearing them you would bet your money that they live around the dusty roads on the Mid to the South West.

Think again. Many of them have seen the US from afar at best.  And you just wasted all your stereo power amps cruising along this Western highway. On some guys who were not born with stetsons on their heads and cowboy boots on their feet. Damn.
