Portents, portents. They usually are legion when things start to go South seriously and are very visible to those willing to see. It is no different with Train, the formerly snarkily cheeky Californians, now seriously on their quest for cool, giddy happiness in all its sugary forms.

Their very own portents already came home to roost in their 2014 edition Bulletproof Picasso. Now that album got them some important flak – and deservedly so. Ironically, it actually blatantly missed the cool boat and ended up on some whitewashed beach in nowhere land.

The RockmusicRaider offices just love those jewels all of a sudden ejected from the nameless masses of music creations. Like some sort of magic volcano gone to the other side. And specifically tasty are those bands that consciously and purposefully defy styles and currents. By this definition, they threaten to become their very own genre – a victim of their own success if you will. We had them before on RockmusicRaider with bands like Dirty Sound Magnet and their self-declared modus operandi aptly named Creative Rock.

Geez, it is a long time since I heard that kind of groove. But here it is: A full load of grunge-flavored, intense Punk Rock hardly seen these days this side of Nirvana. And it does my ears good after all these disks with high-pitched metal that just whipped through the RMR office floor. 

The Swiss band The Killing Volts brandishes this nonchalant, don’t-give-a-shit style that is so very important to their trade. Do you like spelunking? Fancy mystical landscapes gorging with ancient lore and accounts of witches? Then you need to visit Muotathal somewhere in nowhere-land in Switzerland. The region is home to the famous Hölloch, a world-renowned cave system of a couple of hundred klicks in length.

Sometimes the goofy Swiss really knock themselves out. Wikipedia indicates the cave to be 200.4 kilometers in length, which should elevate whoever wrote that sentence to dork nirvana on a world stage of wannabe dorks.
