Avē barbarae!

Gotland are one of these bands. They’ll release a record and wait for an inordinate amount of time to push the second out into the world. Nine years this time, to be precise. In the meantime, the band floated about the RMRsphereTM for a while with an offering here and there. And once the RMR reviewers thought them dead and gone, they suddenly appeared with grand tales. Or is it just a Fata Morgana of grandeur?

So, here’s to one of the most traumatic defeats in Roman history. Three legions lost in the Teutoburg forest somewhere, the … [...] Click to raid more!

Ars Moriendi - Lorsque les coeurs s'assèchent - Album Cover

Ars Moriendi, the art of dying. Many a band already used that striking phrase to name a track, the recently reviewed record of Sanguine Glacialis being the last addition to the RMR ‘zine. But a handful of them out there embraced this moniker as their own. And that’s pretty heavy if you consider the sinister and morose meaning of the phrase. Anaal Nathrakh - The Whole of the Law - Album Cover

Whenever the RMR crew members need to lose some mental steam, Anaal Nathrakh is the go-to band. That’s where real rage happens, delivered by two true wackos. It’s like a steely high-pressure valve. And we’re all hoping that they’ll still continue for a while longer. We might soon run out of records to cover, else. This fucking crazy world of ours is wearing us out and some will need this band’s ferocity or some folks might just grab that chainsaw back in the shed.

More elegantly put, AN records are a cathartic experience that will keep those wilde beasts at … [...] Click to raid more!

Sanguine Glacialis - Maladaptive Daydreaming - Album Cover

We like them pig-headed and unhinged over here. Proud from the underground, unknown bands that reach us seemingly from nowhere. Complete with some delicious chaos that we will find difficult to describe and rate correctly.

Sanguine Glacialis have been around the block a few times, obviously. After all, the band started brandishing its wares since 2010 or so. They’re thus not necessarily unknown to the initiated. But they indeed sailed straight past the RMR sentinels with their somewhat confused 2018 piece Hadopelagic.

Yet, their newest piece Maladaptive Daydreaming shook the sleepy old geezers over at the RMR review desk … [...] Click to raid more!
