And it is not Nightwish – for sure, whereas there are similarities as described further down below. Tuomas Holopainen‘s 2014 solo project The Life and Times of Scrooge is nothing more (and nothing less) than a soundtrack for a story. God, what a great sound coming out of my earphones from The Sleepless Ones. Deep, dark, great, crunchy Melodic Death Metal. And in their typical doomy style.

The Finnish band Insomnium delivers great-sounding stuff. Shockingly, though, sometimes produced in clear vocals, which will have my beloved purists’ tongues wagging the wrong way again.

The album The Silent Force is a cool one, following Mother Earth in spirit, if not in sound. Albeit that the whole concoction comes across as a bit softer and more … mainstream.

Within Temptation have crafted a great 3rd studio album with The Silent Force that will hook you right from the beginning.
