RockmusicRaider Review - Moonspell - Night Eternal - Album Cover

By Loki, the 9th studio album Night Eternal of the Portuguese band Moonspell is hard chow. You really need to listen to this jumble of tracks a few times and apply some goodwill at first. And I mean really go for it!

To take it all in IS tough – blackened, darkly ominous Gothic Metal sounds emerging from my earphones. Brutal, technically very demanding, riffs and harsh vocals assaulting your eardrums and virtually marching through your brain. If it is not burned away – that is – after listening to this record repeatedly.

But then the vampire or the thing that dwells in the darkness inside [...] Click to raid more!

Yo, Baby, where u been all my life?

A crystal clear mix of Heavy and Doom Metal pours out of my earphones and just startled me awake. Oscillating between these two styles, but leaning more towards the doomy mix of nuts served with this Metal Long Island Ice Tea.

RockmusicRaider - Dio - Dream Evil - Album Cover

Heavy Metal is one of my favorite styles and passions in music. And one band that truly had a hand in shaping this passion is Dio with the superb 1987 record Dream Evil.

This album played when the world still seemed in order. All kinda black and white, not torn asunder by some assholes trying to rearrange our lives. Or perhaps they did already, only we did not realize it. Also, the internet did not quite exist yet. And nobody yet dreamt of cell phones the way they exist today. Hey, we even had the good old iron curtain … [...] Click to raid more!

RockmusicRaider Review - Epica - The Phantom Agony - Album Cover

Ah, I am relieved! Just listening to Epica and their June 2003 debut concoction The Phantom Agony. This is a surprising quality and depth for a band so young. Especially after just having reviewed their 2014 Little Booklet of Night Horrors The Quantum Enigma, which was kind of out of control. A real pity by the way. Frankly, I was a little fearful to find something very similar in this record.

Usually, I am not too fond of operatic productions. Most of the time, them bands just serve you with too much pretentious and bombastic bullshit to keep a … [...] Click to raid more!
