RockmusicRaider Newsflash - Aftertime - World We've Lost - Album CoverHa! Looks like 2017 got off to a juicier symphonic start than I expected. A few watery sunrays hit us already late last year with a couple of Symphonic Metal players turning in some pretty sturdy material. Even some of the ‘established’ bands, have seen the light and kicked it up a couple of notches. But of course not nearly enough to counter the same-same, but different legion that likes to dominate the genre. So, luckily we have some exceptions.

Now, these guys state their influences to be Nightwish, Within Temptation, Epica and Leaves’ Eyes – amongst others. And you know what? Well, yes – and yes, spot on.Got hooked? Raid this some more...

Diabulus in Musica – Dirge for the Archons (2016) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Diabulus in Musica - Dirge for the Archons - Album CoverOften in the #metal universe a new album is somewhat of a Pandora’s Box. Or the bottle with the genie that once released won’t fit back into it. Now, I had somewhat of an issue with Argia last time we looked at Diabulus in Musica. And the juicy comments from some punks from the Ministry of Love to get lost over it were interesting too.

The dreary black career cliff a band must navigate around usually looms at the sophomore effort. With Diabulus in Musica it was the junior record that got them to this sorry chunk of rock. I was thus a bit wary of what I would find in DiMs latest and best.Got hooked? Raid this some more...

Dark Portrait – A Harrowing Atrocity (2016) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Dark Portrait - A Harrowing Atrocity - Album CoverWe kind of felt that this may turn out to be the unholy year of Black Metal. And – indeed – it proved black in more ways than one. Like the fucking 50 shades of gray gone very dark and blood-laden all of a sudden. We enjoyed Ritual Black Metal from the likes of Darkend. Loads of Atmospheric stuff coming our way too, which seems to be the new, sometimes almost sanitized blackened style of the day. Played a lot by dudes without corpse paint. And now Greek fire starts to get on our mutual radar screen.

And I kid you not: Dark Portrait joining us from Athens serve us with their début album A Harrowing Atrocity.Got hooked? Raid this some more...

Fleshgod Apocalypse – King (2016) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Fleshgod Apocalypse - King - Album CoverFleshgod Apocalypse is a relatively young band. They formed in 2007 in Perugia/Italy, you know, the medieval city with the escalators; place of epic murder trials, chocolate and pasta. How very fitting a background for the Machiavellian theme employed in this album. And not yet quite 10 years into the game, they came a hell of a long way in a very short time. And I am saying this now, because their style is really difficult to match in terms of complexity. Their latest full length record King really being the proof of the pudding. And they have this tendency to go the route the last Epica record went, trying to stuff way too many elements into a single record – just because they can.Got hooked? Raid this some more...

Gloryhammer – Space 1992: Rise of the Chaos Wizards (2015) – Review

RockmusicRaider - Gloryhammer - Space 1992 - Album CoverNever judge anything by its looks! I tell ya. Don’t. The garish album art of the newest Gloryhammer album Space 1992: Rise of the Chaos Wizards with its purple pinkish hue and green Lego monster just got my teeth hurting in a heartbeat. And it is a good example why not. Gloryhammer present you with insanely catchy lines, melodies that will stick to you like honey in your hair, presenting their parodic #metal cheese with an enthusiasm and energy that will wither away the mighty egos of other bands to nothing. By Loki!

In short, Space 1992: Rise of the Chaos Wizards will just worm itself into your brain and take hold.Got hooked? Raid this some more...
