Same as the dreaded Henry Metal, Tragul ramped up their presence ever more during 2017. Only that this particular band took a much more interesting route. The newly formed outfit decided to forego the usual treadmill and to release every 1-2 months a new video, but no album. A kind of a drip feed to the hungry masses addicted to your soundbites, which – in itself – is an interesting concept.
Progressive Metal is an European affair. Right? This is what the Europeans think at least. And this annoys many American bands to hell and back. But the EU prog nerds have a point. There’s just no real cool prog that emanates from across the pond anymore. The only thing we seem to get these days is preposterous news about how their government behaves itself. Okay, you will find exceptions like the excellent Moon Haven that RMR just recently reviewed. But then, these guys are arguably more on alt-metal territory than anywhere else.

Ha! Looks like 2017 got off to a juicier symphonic start than I expected. A few watery sunrays hit us already late last year with a couple of Symphonic Metal players turning in some pretty sturdy material. Even some of the ‘established’ bands, have seen the light and kicked it up a couple of notches. But of course not nearly enough to counter the same-same, but different legion that likes to dominate the genre. So, luckily we have some exceptions.

Often in the #metal universe a new album is somewhat of a Pandora’s Box. Or the bottle with the genie that once released won’t fit back into it. Now, I had somewhat of an issue with Argia last time we looked at Diabulus in Musica. And the juicy comments from some punks from the Ministry of Love to get lost over it were interesting too.
