So, is Epica the last Symphonic Metal outfit standing? Apart from the newly coined Surma, perhaps. Nightwish has gone all wobbly on us with Marko Hietala now firmly away from the band.1) And now, this February 2021, Delain imploded and reverted into a solo project again. For all the good that this will do them.2) And what about Within Temptation? Well, let’s not go there.

You have to give it to them. Epica are hugely popular and – in a way – have become the embodiment of the Symphonic Metal mainstream. And that might not necessarily be a good thing. Just sayin’.

Yet here, their newest clip Abyss of Time netted over a million views on YouTube with the piece only a few days out of the box. That’s called stellar and global reach. You may like their wares or you may not, but they do hit a nerve with the soft metal folks out there.

After two short blurbs on cover albums by Therion and INK respectively, we are again going at it. This really starts to look like a new trend over here at the famous RMR office suite. I guess a serious talk with the office manager will be in order.

RockmusicRaider Newsflash - Tragul 2018Same as the dreaded Henry MetalTragul ramped up their presence ever more during 2017. Only that this particular band took a much more interesting route.

The newly formed outfit decided to forego the usual treadmill chasing records. Instead, every 1-2 months a new video sees the light of day. A kind of a drip feed to the hungry masses addicted to your soundbites, which – in itself – is an interesting concept.
