Drott‘s 2021 opus Orcus didn’t quite make it onto the RMR must-write list. That was unfortunate, but the rampant complexity of the piece and its weird out-of-the-box feeling turned it into a victim of the dreaded guillotine. 2021 was indeed a busy year full of excellent metal. And the time wasn’t right for this band’s dark musings. In the meantime, however, the folks over at the review desk had a go at the backlog – and found much to like on Drott‘s debut album. Let me bring you songs from the wood? Strange, we heard that line before, eons ago, didn’t we? But it kinda clicks with this outfit, a band called – In The Woods…, with the album art depicting a human tree from hell of sorts.

The band started off back in 1991 – some 31 years in the past. But already in 2000, they departed on a giant hiatus until – 2014. Since then, they unleashed two records to mixed acclaim with Diversum, their third attempt at new-found glory.

RMR himself discovered Dirty Sound Magnet felt eons ago, incidentally at a live concert in 2013. This was still the time with Didier Coenegracht at the helm and the band’s – at the time – newest and only record What Lies Behind on the menu. DSM in a robe of Zep-ish pleasures that immediately hooked this reviewer. And this concert may also have been a major influence to get this here music ‘zine on the road. In short, RMR and DSM go way back.

Pretty much one year ago, Rioghan appeared on our radar with her 2021 blurb Blackened Sky. The RMR crew was greatly impressed by the insane talent on display from someone so young. So, our valiant scouts kept a sturdy lookout for that first album that certainly should drop at some point.
