2024 was a difficult year at first. It started very slow and apart from a few forlorn underground pieces, there wasn’t much that struck the fancy of the old geezers over at the RMR Review Desk. So, how were we ever going to field a genuine Top 10 series with no good material to show for? But fear naught, by late spring the crop started showing some promising results. And – boy – the harvest took a somber turn with many a malevolent piece hitting the desk of the surly Guardian ov the Review Pipe.

The RMR crew first encountered Isolert‘s firebrand style of Black Metal in 2016. No Hope, No Light…Only Death their debut album called itself, and – while still somewhat unwieldy – it stuck with us. Some real Black Metal, from Greece to boot. A strange place for Extreme Metal, by the way. At first, the country appears peaceful, but then you find unsavory little nuggets. Vile metal bands, some of which appeared on this zine. Rotting Christ for instance, Kvadrat,1 or Septic Flesh come to mind to name just a few.

As we move around the Black Metal landscape, the Mediterranean is gaining importance. And most of them bands in the lands of olives and great wine are good to very good. Just think about our recent review of Darkend. Slowly, but surely letting the devil approach the Holy See in Rome. I really had fun with this special Congressus cum Daemone. Or Vinterblot joining us from the white beaches, down at the heel of the boot in Italy.
