I am stumped and pleased at the same time with Hunter’s Moon of the Dutch outfit Delain.

Why issue an EP, and then smother it in a truckload of endless live tracks and videos? Unless you want to make a weak offering palatable to the audience by stuffing it with a ton of recordings of times past.

Or you mix 16 minutes of originality with 48 minutes of miscellaneous recordings on a CD, plus untold minutes of video on another, to inflate earnings. Which – again – is a fine strategy. Because you gotta make a living, right?

Should I tell you a dirty, truly geeky secret? I kinda got a kick out of the Mad Max themed video Unleash The Archers released with their 2015 screamo Time Stands Still. Even if I just could not really get warm with this particular record in general. The yodeling and aimless speed crimes were just too bad.

Do you know why the 2017 Ensiferum record still did not get a review? It is not for lack of trying. The reason is the predictability of their product. This argument leads to ‘I told you so’ on style and execution. This almost divine anticipation that – most of the time – is right on target. And this drives everyone around the RMR officescape nuts.

Some voices out there declare that only new – as in brand new – records can get a review. To go back and contemplate good ol’ tunes from the past is forbidden devilry. To be squished quickly, blown to smithereens with this mighty Thor’s hammer surely in their possession.
