This is what happens when you select your records to review based on the smart looks of the album cover only. And it is indeed a sublime piece of art glaring back at you from Magnadur‘s latest concoction.1

Other considerations surfaced as well, of course. Such as this band hitting the metal underground out of nowhere in 2024. A relatively large portion of RMR’s 2024 crop o’ records originates from the predominantly German-speaking part of the world. Bands like Ellende, Weltenbrandt, or again Agrypnie come to mind. And now, late in the year, Kanonenfieber1 finally appeared dead-center on our radar. And I reckon they deserve a spot on our august list of bands on this year’s roster.

The band’s bread and butter in metal or, more accurately, guns and bullets, comfortably settles in darkly colorful depictions of war, notably the terrors of World War I. A storyline that eerily reminded this crew of the meatgrinder … [...] Click to raid more!

Do you still remember Sult‘s terrible visage devoid of skin? You know, the totally terrified look of some unfortunate human being enduring atrocious torture and not knowing what comes next? Yes, that guy. Well, it looks like somebody just tried to cover this up and reconstitute the facial features. Only, they did a total fuck job and the scarred tissue ain’t pretty in its pinkish horror. Welcome to Bedlam. Scream at me, Kollapse. If you still can do so without a mouth, that is. When I first read the title of Rorcal‘s newest pile of filth, I had to laugh. Silence – the contrary to what one expects from any of this band’s vanta black offerings. In fact, peace and quiet is what you will yearn for once the record is done with you. And it comes with a whopping 42 minutes of insane heaviness, so take heed.
