RockmusicRaider - eluveitie - Ategnatos - Album Cover

I said it, didn’t I. After Evocation II released in 2017, I could already feel that this bright stage light for Fabienne Erni was not going to last for too long. So, here we find ourselves with Ategnatos, Eluveitie‘s newest in early 2019.

With a friggin’ 16 tracks crammed into one hour of air coverage. That is 3′ 45” of playtime for each track on average, exactly what the pop industry and the infamous labels demand for radio coverage. Well, kind of. Only, here we deal with Folk and Pagan Metal, not pop. We reckon, at least.

RockmusicRaider Review - Tales From This Land - Album Cover

Aexylium call their creation Folk Metal, like so many others before them. Not endlessly regurgitate old stuff or go for weird pop covers.

The mighty Symphonic Metal front chicks from Exit Eden recently tried to pull that pop cover stunt as well. The outcome was – well – bizarre to say the least. With tracks ranging from juvenile wet dreams to age-old pop disasters that we all hoped [...] Click to raid more!

Valfreya – Promised Land (2017) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Valfreya - Promised Land - Album Cover I am unsure where this somewhat morbid fascination with the past history of marauding Norsemen going Viking comes from. After all they invaded the homesteads of foreign populations, looted, killed, raped and enslaved until there was no one left. And then settled the lands for whatever it was worth.

But here we are, and Viking Metal bands are legion these days, thriving in an ever increasing genre. And let’s face it: Metal with all its dark facets is just perfect to describe yonder sea adventures and battles alike.

RockmusicRaider already covered a score of Viking Metal bands, if you can [...] Click to raid more!
