Perhaps it was destiny that David Gilmour knocked at RMR’s steely gate late at night this fall and – to everybody’s surprise – garnered a review. For a solo piece he released in 2024, no less. So, the crew here basked in the creamy, warm light of smooth groove and established alt-rock with a flow addiction for a long while.

Let’s blame it on Iron Maiden‘s Dickinson, shall we? Some time back in 2025, the man himself commented on the happy birthday of The X Factor and asked the wide audience for their favorite tracks.1 And my point was, truthfully, that there weren’t any. And there still aren’t. Or are there?

Olde is our memory after all these decades. And – perhaps – now is a good moment to revisit an ancient and possibly misunderstood record. This time, with the weight of 10 years of reviews behind us. Halo still ranked pretty well over at the RMR Review Desk, despite pretty severe reservations from some crewmembers over here. In a way, Amorphis‘ (in)famous trilogy seemed to suffer from overreach at the end. A form of fatigue brought about by too much mandated playtime and not enough good ideas to fill the void with real mana.

And who can blame them, really? The sturdy roughy Under The Red Cloud and the feisty piece Queen of Time must have sucked the oxygen out of the songsmithing atelier. So, I reckon, the last one of the trio had trouble really … [...] Click to raid more!

Týr are back with news, straight from their cold islands of the Faroes. And, as is often the case, the RMR crew was keen to hear what the old metal Vikings are up to on their stormy rock outcropping up there in the North. After all, they need to improve on their latest record. And soon.
