At The Gates – The Ghost of a Future Dead (2026) – Review

At The Gates - The Ghost of a Future Dead - Album Cover

Ah, the RMR n00b carousel is turning again in 2026. Who would have thought that? This time with At The Gates, destroying metal objects since 1990 with some significant absences in between. Yet another band with a proven track record furthering the metal cause. But one that – for some reason – did not make it onto our roster until now.

Now, this here record, ominously called The Ghost of A Future Dead, is going to be a weird one to review. RMR will be commenting on a record interpreted by a dead man. At The Gates lost … [...] Click to raid more!

Katatonia – Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State (2025) – Review

Katatonia - Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State - Album Cover

Katatonia graced our zine in 2023 only as part of an effort to acknowledge the metal mainstream a bit better. Thus, Sky Void of Stars fell victim to our first lamestream n00b listing, and the RMR crew wasn’t quite impressed. Meaning, if you’re not a fan, you’re looking at things differently. Not that our cold, hard gaze at one of metal’s most established bands changed any diehard fans’ pre-established convictions. RockmusicRaider Newsflash - Omega Diatribe - Abstract Ritual - Album Cover

You know, I like swagger in a band. And if they can produce good metal AND they have a good cover story to boot, like the Hungarian Groove Metal outfit Omega Diatribe, then it is almost sold. Of course, the quality of their tune will take precedence – after all the music counts, not the posture.

Their story?

A contract has been passed between humans and some psycho aliens about the limited use of Earth’s resources. This is called Omega Diatribe. Once time’s up only open-minded people can survive this transition.

Good story – Star Trek anyone?
