RockmusicRaider Newsflash - Ossian Smith - Sleepless Town - Album CoverSometimes it just takes simple rock to put a smile on your face. And one would think that we have seen it all when it comes to rock’n’roll. But you still find them out there; the artists that manage to squeeze their trade a bit more and get something original and tasty out to their fan base.

Built on a cheekily hinted foundation of good ol’ rock tunes from the ’70s and ’80s, Finnish artist Ossian Smith happily mixes Punk, alt-Country, Southern, Folk Rock and more into a somewhat headstrong concoction. In a short 17 minutes, the EP Sleepless Town is a pretty impressive piece of work. A fresh look at how rock ought to sound, whilst not forgetting the roots where this all came from. So, if you are up to a brand of rock with a slightly different flavor, then you should definitely have a go at Ossian Smith [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!

Kings of Moonshine – Iron River (2017) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Kings of Moonshine - Iron River - Album CoverJust think about alt-country and good ol’ root music. Staunch, country-fare American sounds pouring out of your loudspeakers. Lost down in Tennessee, boozed up by too much moonshine, but still good enough to enjoy on a hot summer evening. Then again punkish lo-fi pseudo rock’n’roll aesthetics served on a Southern Comfort laced platter of a full Southern Breakfast.

And clearly sometimes the lines between some sort of desert-tinged rock, punk and real country are blurred and there’s trouble really getting a grip on the genre. Especially if we get disconnected country boys or established chansonniers calling in to state that they are now part of the movement. In truth, many people have trouble wrapping their heads around the genre, yours truly included. Yet, the music is fascinating and I daresay multifaceted. So, this is the credo of Kings of Moonshine their newest dish Iron River. And behold, ’tis no Nashville based band, no sir, they hail from Finland of all places.  [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!

RockmusicRaider Newsflash - Damage Limit - Crank - Album CoverIt must be the long, cold nights in Finland that drives people to music when the wind howls through the empty tundra and frozen forests. And you got a friggin’ wave of ’em bands rolling down on ye from yonder lands. RockmusicRaider just did a piece on Moonsorrow and their stellar latest offering. And covered a felt gazillion of Finnish bands since the blog’s beginnings. Now, here we go again: Of course, Damage Limit and their EP Crank – signed to Secret Entertainment – do not boast the latter’s style at all. They more remind me of a less cheeky, yet more down-to-earth version of Bear Bone Company.

Crank delivers a tasty, straightforward stoner-infused and punky Hard Rock to your turntable. And you will find that hard to resist. I concur with the band’s statement that their roots are back in the ’80s and ’90s, not only influenced by the Hard Rock crowd, but also by some steely metal. Okay, this is not something new, but you are gonna like the sturdy riffing and screaming solos that these guys throw at you. Together with Samu’s rasping vocals to make matters whole. It is that refreshing meat and potato kind of rock’n’roll with a early metal twist they don’t make very often anymore these days.  [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!
