The Norns at the roots of Yggdrasil were just laughing at me again and made another plan. By Loki! AntimateriA is the name of the plan. And their new album Valo Aikojen Takaa is Thor’s Hammer so to speak. And the band brings pretty sturdy and seldom-seen metal oomph to the party. 

So that is why Valo Aikojen Takaa made it onto the blog out of nowhere?

Picture this: A kiwi band from Dunedin in New Zealand, now based in Scotland (of all places), sporting a Swedish frontman from Malmö. Meet Sojourner and their debut full-length album Empires of Ash.

Their tune is something like Jethro Tull got married to Clannad (ok, not metal, I know) and then met Ashbringer. All that jazz placed into a landscape reminiscent of Caladan Brood and Summoning combined.

So, what empires await thee?

For sure not in Batushka‘s first studio record Litourgyia. This album is going to get feistier as it progresses. And it has this friggin’ tendency to keep you on your toes, and not grant you one tranquil moment to calm down and contemplate your situation.

Okay, I am hooked. The Austrian synth pop Black Metal universe gets me feeling all funny inside. Especially if this talks to my benevolent Depeche Mode nerve that was long thought dead, but now tries to resurrect itself. 

Seriously!

Summoning with their 2013 Old Mornings Dawn are marching down their straight Roman road to Middle Earth still after all these years. To be more precise, it is 7 long years of waiting – incidentally the critical period in any kind of relationship.
