It is true. These guys have an ego bigger than the tiny Faroe Islands, where they hail from. The swagger they deliver their fare with continues to astonish me. But what can you do, when warrior blood flows in your veins.

Right? 

Hel, the newest record of Týr, feels, as if the beer-swirling folks of Alestorm moved North, and grew some muscle and real beards. And Amon Amarth should be ashamed of themselves, they just got keelhauled by some trve Vikings. Or at least by the remnants of the descendants or something.

The Black Album came first in the ’90s, which was also the first one Bob Rock produced. This was a time when Metallica started to see the light. That they could not just scream about the stage forever, and stay at the same decent levels of fan support. Much to the dismay of one James Hetfield, it seems, judging by some of his remarks that still float about the YouTube multiverse.

The 1996 album Load of Metallica really was the red-headed stepchild of my music collection for a long time. It got to be the sandwich in between the self-titled Black Album and Reload with The Unforgiven II. Only Load did not contain anything unforgiven or any excitement that we could write home about.

But is this really so? Did Metallica lose the rudder and compass at the same time, as some of my brethren suggested? Kinda adrift in strange oceans and lost on unknown lands. Hold on to your maps!

By Thor, I just realized that this blog never REALLY looked at the folks of Metallica. Okay, we got Hardwired…To Self-Destruct on the menu for sure. The somewhat frugal 2016 offering that only got some grudging claim to fame.

But one of the turning points in their career really spread along a series of albums starting with the self-named record Metallica, also called the Black Album. Back in 1991 the band already had serious action under their belt. Kill ’em All or Master of Puppets kinda rocked them to stardom already.
