Some records that cross our review pipeline just give us a hard time. It’s metal alright, but boy, often they’re those hard-horse pieces with a flow like a block of concrete.

The Dutch band River of Souls crossed our hawse way back with their pretty corny debut The Well of Urd. And a doomily powerful concoction it was, served on a foundation of the old gods’ shenanigans. One that wore out one or two of our turntables, by the way.

Well, for those who don’t, the band hails from Canada. And they famously made us work more on their stuff than was absolutely necessary. And it looks like they’re gonna continue doing that in 2020.
