The RMR deck crew has recently taken a fancy to the styleless masses of the metal multiverse. Outfits that moved away from the (self-imposed) conventions and narrow rulez of genres that shouldn’t even exist. Bands that impress us with non-melody, completely out there in the fever swamps of dronish imagination. Or others that just gallivant around the soundscape the way they see fit. And sometimes it is not even metal the way ‘it is meant to be’.

When things get experimental, this crew gets worried. The RMR deckhands already had their fair share of ‘great bands’ that only managed to waste our time with ill-fated projects. Those that got hailed by the eternal yeasayers to nirvana and back, defended by a small gang of loudmouth fans.

Some picture themselves as the archetype of the avant-garde, those that dare face the brave new world that will emerge after all those pandemics and miscellaneous tribulations changed everything. So much so, that we now must embrace the useless and the atrocious. Because someone said so.1

Ah yes, they still exist. Bands that waste no time and just try to bludgeon you into submission with their mighty hammer of excellent blackened alloy. Blast beats that rumble comfortably across yer stomach, pitch-black tremolo fests, and rasps that scrape about yer earphones like so many pointed fingernails on a blackboard.

Why on earth did Heilung change names, move to Ireland, and chant ever more weirdly around the soundscape? But it’s not Heilung, they’re still firmly lodged mostly in Scandinavia. And their chanting didn’t deteriorate either.1 Besides, their earthy lore ain’t the same style as this one here.

It is the Irish band Soothsayer that – for some reason – decided to start their new piece Echoes of the Earth with some atrociously bad wailings on eternal repeat.2 Fringe probably exists solely to lull RMR into some sort of a transcendental state3 to accept more such bizarre garbage … [...] Click to raid more!
