Sometimes you just crave it. This blazing hot crunch, seemingly coming from the fiery depths of hell and trying to destroy your eardrums. The whiff of a ritual, all ready to be performed. All this sweet dissonance in the name of the Dark Lord just ignites this urge in me to slap some corpse paint on my face, put on my leaded boots and don the spikes.

And Gnosis, the latest and fourth release of the Belgian band Saille, does exactly that. You really feel like moving down the hallway, beyond yonder red door, and down the dreaded stairs into the reeking darkness.

RockmusicRaider Review - Darkend - The Canticle of Shadows - Album CoverAh, the devil communicates in Italian. How very fitting: Black Metal moving closer to Rome, spiked fists and all. But then Darkend are speaking in tongues on The Canticle of Shadows – many tongues. 

Mixing English with Italian, French, Latin into the fray. A real tower of Babylon, but what else would you expect from the devil? Right? 

Dissonance at every corner, monologues and a weird Lovecraft-esque type of nightmare Black Metal of the melodic kind. Some of that stuff is very reminiscent of the liturgical Batushka, keeping you unhinged like Myrkur or Saille at every turn of this [...] Click to raid more!
