Debate raged around the RMR offices. It was all about an outrageous non-metal album floating out there in the not-so-rocky universe and covered in brightly colored stars. And you heard the hype, right? Don’t we just all love conspiracy theories? Mysteries yet unsolved and deliciously unsolvable?

The rumor had it that Steven Wilson and his newest full-length To The Bone would be pop. Monumental change took place within the confines of Eluveitie. Anna Murphy and her entourage (or faction, as evil tongues have it) left the band in 2016 seemingly in protest. And that meant long-time drummer Merlin Sutter and guitarist Ivo Henzi left with her to found Cellar Darling. Or – as the lore goes – Merlin got left first and the others chose to follow suit.

At times my metal-sore ears just give up the ghost and are in dire need of something more melodious and less harsh. So, there is no better treatment than slapping some progressive and alternative Band-Aid on them.

And indeed, the RMR deck crew finds that those undercurrents finally take on some steam. Luckily so, as the officescape kind of worried about what was about to come still in 2017. Apart from blackened pieces of scorched metal, of which there is plenty these days. Yet still, some doubts persist on what exactly is to come.

Newsflash: Funeralglade begin some funeral!

This one really rocks.

But in a lost identity, total head-banger kind of way. And I am confused. Because the Finnish boys from Funeralglade got a label of Melodic Death Metal stuck to themselves, they said. Of the Northern kind, they said. 

Yet out comes something called May The Funeral Begin. The RMR crew had to descend to the basement and let the big boxes rip. And in the process detected a mix of Arch Enemy, a hint of crabby Abbath, and NordWitch. So, something blackened, yet melodic and totally metal.
