You surely remember one Tomas Börje Forsberg. This is at least how he called himself back in time. Forsberg was more famously known by the moniker Quorthon, and as the founder of the Black Metal turned Viking Metal band Bathory. This band released some truly mysterious and electrifying stuff back in their time. Until their leader’s demise in 2004 at the age of 39 years put a brutal stop to things, that is.

Ah, the things we miss sometimes in the course of a year, and then rediscover them. Just when I should be madly writing the 2017 Top 10 to finalize the last months and move on to bigger and better things in the new year.

The tidbits of sound, slightly unhinged and never straight. Hints of madness and bedlam in tatters. Mad screaming, rusty guitar sounds embedded in wet, scratchy metal. Don’t we like the old deities at RockmusicRaider. Those that existed before the nailed god and his ailing airs sucked all fun out of life. Back in time when Yule ruled strong, with feasting and a sacrifice or two on the menu. 

Sturdy tales galore of gods and their brethren out to commit mischief and strange actions of all types. Odin on Sleipnir (his horse), Njord, Yggdrasil, and the three Norns living in the roots of the tree of life. All this fed by the Well of Urd at the source of it all.

Bleak winds and an icy cold live outside of the RMR offices. A snowstorm from the East is being delivered right now and the temperature drops rapidly towards absolute numbers. At least that is what this feels like these days. And I don’t even live in the frozen tundra of Siberia, even if it feels like it. This is supposed to be temperate over here.
