RockmusicRaider Review - Incursed - Amalur - Album Cover

The blasted July 2017 EP The Slavic Covenant of Incursed did not impress the RMR deck crew. Too many oldies and not enough goodies, I can tell ya. Bands need to produce new, awesome material that is unique and people will want to hear. Not endlessly regurgitate old stuff or go for weird pop covers.

The mighty Symphonic Metal front chicks from Exit Eden recently tried to pull that pop cover stunt as well. The outcome was – well – bizarre to say the least. With tracks ranging from juvenile wet dreams to age-old pop disasters that we all hoped [...] Click to raid more!

RockmusicRaider Review - Alestorm - No Grave But The Sea - Album Cover

“Rum, beer, quests, and mead. These are the things that a pirate needs!”

By Davy Jones’ beard, only one band throws a chorus line like that at the audience. And only one can be reviewed whilst under the influence, without a ticket from grammar police.

These are the alcohol guzzling sea dogs of Alestorm. Let’s face it: When Christopher Bowes and his gang of merry pirates have another go at a record, fun and cheap booze are on the menu. Sometimes too intense for their own good or slightly overdone in reckless cheesiness, but never too serious.

And always delivered with an eyewink of sorts. Their personas reach from the Davy Jones infested waters of Alestorm to galaxy hopping goblins in Gloryhammer.

Now this time we descend from bewildering space goblins to some more basic needs Heavy Metal pirates have. And turn the clock back to 2014, when Alestorm‘s fourth full length record Sunset on [...] Click to raid more!

Gloryhammer – Tales from the Kingdom of Fife (2013) – Review

RockmusicRaider - Tales of the Kingdom of Fife - Album Cover How to best describe this?

Ah, yeah. The band calls it Heroic Fantasy Power Metal, no less. But it indeed feels like the beginning of the Kingdom of Cheese. This is what happens, when a Scottish pirate and a Swiss cheese artist come together to form a band.

The debut of the mighty Gloryhammer called Tales from the Kingdom of Fife happens. That’s what!

Reminiscent of Hammerfall in many instances, the album for sure does not break any new ground. But whatever ground they break presents itself with an absolutely stellar enthusiasm and a technical prowess that puts other debuting [...] Click to raid more!
