It appears that a somewhat limited, yet pretty high-octane offering of prog will pass over the RMR review counter this year. And that’s a good thing. Even if we would have liked to see more, much more.

After the 2019 disappointment that Leprous produced, the deckhands on this RMR cruiser really look forward to some revival of Progressive Metal. Well, to cover two videos on RockmusicRaider for one sole upcoming album is a true first. This is some sort of fanboy gluttony that should not be repeated too often, lest the blog lose its bite and focus. But hey, give credit, where credit is due, right?

Already Haken‘s former piece Canary Yellow off their upcoming record Virus fascinated us with their ’80s era, nuclear version of germ warfare gone wrong.

Well, this tune clearly harkens back to a time when Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson1, and Leprous still made Progressive Rock and Metal worth its salt. Haken‘s newest extract from their upcoming piece prominently called Virus really pricked our ears. Not because it is exceedingly crunchy or some sort of powerful metal, but because Canary Yellow is one artfully mastered track.

It does impress with a pretty unusual and somewhat gentle, yet potent style of Progressive Metal at the top of its art. Subtly thunderous, yet amazingly soft-spoken. Which surprises even more, once you contemplate its fiery end.… [...] Click to raid more!
