Rarely and usually completely out of the blue, you get these refreshing blurbs of rock and metal that will make you keep your faith in modern music. True, there were no real breakthroughs anymore lately in terms of new styles. But then bands with promise continue to come along. Those who know how to string elements together just right and forge a blazing hot slab of rock. Slap Betty or Last Bullet were just two of them out of many that made it onto the RMR blog page for that very reason.

It is funny how hindsight vision 20/20 is clear and precise. Back in time, Rainbow and their second full-length record Rising did – at first – not garner a lot of heightened attention. It really did not, apart from a tight circle of rock nerds perhaps. The sound was good, damn straight, but not stellar.

‘Yet Another Decent Hard Rock Record’ as we would say today.

It is also true that Rainbow was ever-present and blasting out of a multitude of loudspeakers. But so was Status Quo and many others. Yet still, Rising kind of had the nerve to stick itself … [...] Click to raid more!

Let’s hop on a time machine. Back to the rocking ’70s, where the groove ran high and times were wild. A different brand of wild, compared to today, mind you. Where scratchy lyrics and lo-fi sounds were all the rage. 

Then, throw in some Southern Rock for good measure. Oh, and break out those jeans, will ya. You know, the ones with them wide tubes and flowers stitched onto them.

That groovy enough?

Sometimes you will find a record that has this knack to hook you, but you have no idea why. It is some sort of visceral pull that makes you come back for more. So happened with the somewhat unorthodox Swiss Rock band Silver Dust and their latest album.

The band rose from the ashes in the year of the Lord 2013. And immediately released a first record, which spawned a single of some local acclaim.
