Intermittent Digest – Tome VII

RockmusicRaider - Intermittent Digest - Tome VIIWhoops! Is it mid 2018 yet? It is. And thus high time to take stock again of records that excited us at RockmusicRaider since Tome VI appeared on the screens of our esteemed fans. Meantime, the deck crew issued a new Top 10 for 2017 and hammered out yet another edition of the Old’n’Tasty series.

Now, these intermittent digests are surely no top 10 list. But some of those albums might very well end up in a hall of fame or two. And the harvest of records to date is certainly surprisingly eclectic. So – fans and friends – here we go with Tome VII:

RockmusicRaider Review - Infinitas - Civitas Interitus - Album CoverWhoever said that bands in Switzerland cannot whelp good metal records? And then coming from a remote corner of this decidedly tiny country to boot. Meet Infinitas and their record Civitas Interitus. The band boasts an unusual brand of Folk Thrash Metal that they savvily mix with acoustics, real folk and instrumentals. The pretty tasty and cool mix of styles and nuances really renders it difficult to get away from the record. Until you – suddenly – reach the end. The quality of the pudding is in the eating? Rightly so – for this blog at least. Infinitas managed to appear on the 2017 Top 10 AND get a video posted in 2018. There you go. [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!

Kanseil – Fulische (2018) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Kanseil - Fulische - Album CoverThe gods of music like to test bands in more ways than one. The necessity to make money with their tune is one of them. And this one is not always easy in this day and age of galloping digitization and streaming madness. Not losing their creative streak, lest the fan base will evaporate quickly and light on juicier targets is the next challenge. Or navigating around that pitch black, razor-sharp cliff that always appears for their sophomore album is the ultimate challenge. Many a band already wrecked their career on that particular rock, either because they ran out of ideas or because they actually tried to be way too inventive.

Kanseil already caused a considerable stir with the RMR deck crew, when they released their first 2015 studio album Doin Earde under Nemeton Records. Now you can imagine the state of alert around the officescape, when their 2nd and newest studio album Fulische (sparks) appeared on our review list. [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!

RockmusicRaider Review - Vallorch - Until Our Tale is Told - Album CoverThe Italian Folk Metal band VallorcH released their sophomore full-length album Until Our Tale Is Told signed to Nemeton Records back towards the end of 2015. The band takes a more folksy Gothic approach to local themes, like the Cimbrian culture still existing in the highlands North of Venice, thus creating their very own brand of Folk Metal. Complete with a female front and growling provided by the male vocalist at every corner of the road. By comparison, other bands in the genre, for example their counterparts Kanseil and their latest album Doin Earde take a different, more medievally tainted route of the very same subject matter.

VallorcH came into existence back in 2010 and released a first EP in 2012. The first full length album Neverfade followed the year thereafter. After that they played a number of gigs, getting some serious action under their belts. Until Our Tale Is Told got released electronically in 2015, now followed with a full CD in 2016 through Nemeton Records. Now, the mix of using archaic instruments and modern Death and Black Metal elements in their tune adds a lot of spice to this risotto they are presenting to us. A pretty cool level of dissonance too. I especially like their use of the accordion, which puts them alongside bands like Finsterforst.  [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!
