Gotland are one of these bands. They’ll release a record and wait for an inordinate amount of time to push the second out into the world. Nine years this time, to be precise. In the meantime, the band floated about the RMRsphereTM for a while with an offering here and there. And once the RMR reviewers thought them dead and gone, they suddenly appeared with grand tales. Or is it just a Fata Morgana of grandeur?

We like them pig-headed and unhinged over here. Proud from the underground, unknown bands that reach us seemingly from nowhere. Complete with some delicious chaos that we will find difficult to describe and rate correctly.

Sanguine Glacialis have been around the block a few times, obviously. After all, the band started brandishing its wares since 2010 or so. They’re thus not necessarily unknown to the initiated. But they indeed sailed straight past the RMR sentinels with their somewhat confused 2018 piece Hadopelagic.

Ah, the woes of Pop Metal out there in the alloy-infested wild. Some of it is good, and most of it is bad. But they all are energetic to a point, somewhere up there with the Power Metal folks. Only that the majority of those records feels like a maniacal Barbie Cheesefest for grownups with a metal twist. And that netted some big bands like Amaranthe the might of our terrible banhammer. Theirs is just too much of a money grab with overdone tropes1 that we all heard a gazillion times before.

Mammuthus. That’s one helluva band name. It speaks of big-boned animals, heavy in tusks and voracious appetites. A menace and food source to early humans that desperately roamed their ice-infested hunting grounds during the last cold spell. Until some unknown event brought about their extinction a few thousand years ago, that is. The when or why nobody quite knows and opinions sharply diverge.
