A few weeks ago, the RMR grey-beard squad checked out Wintersun‘s 2017 epos The Forest Seasons. A pretty tasty piece of Forest Metal that somehow tried too hard to be a great record in a way. Throughout the reviewing process, the RMR crew witnessed a lot of whining about the greatness of the band’s 2012 epos Time I. And how a) The Forest Seasons didn’t quite cut it and b) everybody’s still waiting for the elusive Time II.

Ah, Forest Metal. Bands like Ellende or Waldgeflüster come to mind. Of course, the aforementioned outfits feature a different, darker style than Wintersun‘s latest. But hey, foresty musings can come in many forms. And we find all of those very hard to resist. Thus, seasonal greetings from under a leafy cover. Bungle in the jungle.

Sometimes the terrible Gods o’ Vile Metal are merciful. They often curtail the most brutal records to a length usually reserved for EPs. But it is for a good cause. Because how would you possibly survive such an onslaught of molten alloy for a full hour or more? So, less is indeed more for once.

And if the offering is juicy enough, we will blatantly ignore the instructions on EPs handed down from management, and just go ahead with a full review. And this here record truly qualifies.

Let’s explore your punkish side for a change. Away from this vile metal thing that usurps yer senses to no end. You know, back to a fiery brand of rock that comes in short blurbs of hellish brutality. With lyrics that are yelled straight in your faces like one of those addle-brained drill instructors over in the US.
