RockmusicRaider Review - Whispered - Metsutan - Album Cover

So, what have we here? Some sort of modern-time Hakkapeliitta yelling “Ei! Ei! Oh!” as they storm the stage? Scary! And it does not seem to fit, now, does it? This band is coming from Finland, not Japan.

But then again it does: ‘Cause it’s called Samurai Metal, that’s what!

I must say, this piping hot and spicy miso soup Whispered have created with their third album Metsutan: Songs of the Void will fill your metal heart with joy.

In fact, this somehow sounds like the latest of Insomnium gone East with a dose of Children of Bodom that just got itself an extra Death Metal injection. A [...] Click to raid more!

Nothing much left of Metal and Gothic or Symphonic, whilst there are some attempts to get back on track.

The 2011 album The Unforgiving from Within Temptation is a totally new direction from what was before. Some of my co-reviewers compared the record to Nightwish, but there is no Nightwish ingenuity in there, … [...] Click to raid more!

Within Temptation - Mother Earth - Album Cover

Kind of changing direction, but still following the vein of its predecessor Enter, the Y2K 2nd full studio album Mother Earth from the Dutch band Within Temptation is an astonishing piece of work.

Perhaps the band went a tad overboard with a hazy, tree-hugger kind of style. But the record is still very varied with a few excellent tracks in it. Within Temptation called their new style ‘Celtic’, whatever in the big wide hell this might mean. But more importantly, they got rid of those darned growls that really never were their forte and proved to be the bane … [...] Click to raid more!
