They did it. They finally dit it. Xandria managed to keep one of their female fronts a bit longer than for a felt stretch of one album only. So, here they again feature the classically trained Dutch singer Dianne Van Giersbergen on their second album in a row. And rightly so. Talented girl that she is, she can easily match a range from Tarja Turunen, over Floor Jansen and back to Simone Simons. And that means something.
When I read the late twitter message from the German band Xandria a few days ago that they are now (in 2015 – wow) heading out to India for the first time, it struck me as somewhat ironic. And this of course in light of their 2005 record and 3rd studio album India that has been on the market for … almost 10 years now.

The first time I came across Xandria was via their second album Ravenheart. Not sure what really got my interest going to be honest. It probably was their unique style this band displayed at that time.
A German outfit, rocking in a somewhat delirious and somewhat poppy brand of Gothic and Melodic Metal. And – on top – these boys and girls provided a much needed counterweight to other upcoming bands like Within Temptation back then.

Who would have thought that Xandria would evolve in this way? Judging by the almost failed, but widely hyped album Neverworld’s End, I had no great hopes for their newest record Sacrificium.
Especially because the band likes to disband their frontwomen at a very rapid-fire pace. With that kind of turnover, you just will have trouble with succession and the delivery of quality work.
