The RMR crew loves a good progressive, alternative, psychedelic, or even experimental rock or metal piece. Because it is there that the out-of-the-box folks dwell. Those bands that won’t be bothered by the strict confines of some genres but dearly like their artistic freedom of creativity without constraints. Yet, some of these bands tend to go a bit or way too much overboard with their liberties. A fact that may or may not play in their favor.

The good ol’ warcry again rang out after too much metal ravaged our ears somewhat fierce lately. That devout wish combined itself with an urge to clean up our database with reviews we might have missed over time. And that’s how Marisa and the Moths (re)appeared on our radar with their self-titled 2019 piece.

There’s a ton of Grunge Rock outfits out there. Most of them wanting a slice of the long-gone masters of all time. The band that somehow became the stick by which everything with the grunge label needs to be measured.

We said it a few times already. The RMR deckhands fancy bands that step out of boundaries. Too many outfits just navigate inside the suffocating confines of arbitrarily set genres. And astonishingly, many a metal adept actually likes that.

There is no stepping out of the proverbial box into those dreary swamps of new metal that can swallow you whole in an instant. In their minds you can’t be a metalhead without wearing a ton of black t-shirts and sport a scraggly beard, if you’re male, that is. But I transgress, so let’s get back to this review.
