I did not even like the record at first when I discovered the disc sometime around spring break last year. Too loud, too chaotic, too unharmonious. Take that, unknown record! So, all its wonders more or less intact, the dish got shelved quickly and brutally. And continued to collect dust ever since, sent to oblivion to rot forever.

One of the most popular kids on the metal block these days is Progressive Metal. The style in its rocky incarnation has been around for a while, of course. Just think about old rock bands like Jethro Tull, Kansas, or Uriah Heep, who got famous by not adjusting to the norm. Just to name a very few.

The Greek act Rotting Christ is one of the outfits most rooted in the Black and Extreme Metal genres. Their ascent to unholy glory really took off with the renowned Triarchy of the Lost Lovers back in 1996. 

Now, before you start throwing eggs at me, there will undoubtedly always be those who will argue that Non-Serviam came first. But I was never overly impressed by this specific record.

Whoever said all Australians are laid back and cool? Beer in hand and BBQ fired up, chasing crocodiles? Because this here band is anything but that. Or so it seems when their monstrous sound hits your eardrums.

Hailing from Perth way out West in Australia, the Extreme Metal band Deadspace presents us with a seething hot chunk of metal. Their 2016 EP Gravity sloshes around a life-cycle or – should I say – a perpetual cycle theme of birth, life, death and re-birth.
