RockmusicRaider Review - King Goat - Debt of Aeons - Album CoverThe 2016 record Conduit of King Goat already prominently featured on the RockmusicRaider blog. And all that despite of yours truly in a way. Because – at the beginning – I was not too amused with that snazzy new outpouring of doom. The record thus took its sweet time to mount in pressure and kinda reach the green zone. You know, the one that will get this reviewer to write a few words. But the band, somewhat to my surprise, finally succeeded with a pretty good rating.

Well, King Goat seem to be doomed for the same fate all over again, like some ghost that cannot move over to the other side. No pun intended – well, almost. Because the same ‘get outta here’ feeling got ahold of the RockmusicRaider deck crew when we finally got around to plug their new album in and start on it. Too much screaming at sound check will not make good music, was the first reaction. But then the record started to take on some volume, a certain unmistakable poise that will get you to listen further. [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!

RockmusicRaider Review - Pallbearer - Heartless - Album CoverDo you remember Khemmis and their 2016 album Hunted? Or King Goat‘s Conduit of that same year? These are powerful pieces of doom, saturated with a flow of tears that these guys kicked out onto the market. Both records have that tendency to keep your attention, even if a certain annoying lengthiness and over-complicated structures are inherent to them. But still powerful stuff nonetheless, ain’t it? This movement towards new doom horizons seems to be the sign of the time with a number of talented newbies coming on board to take over the doom universe from the old guard. And many of them come from the good ‘ol US of A. So, there is at least something good rolling over the ocean from NYC these days.

But the genre is very busy; there’s more…

Another outfit worth your reckoning is the US band Pallbearer. They enjoyed a pretty steeply arched career since they started delivering records some short years ago. Another slightly more seasoned newcomer, if you will. Just remember their 2nd full length record Foundations of Burden that got some pretty spiffy international acclaim. Of course, cranking out that much quality material in such a short time raises expectations. Lots of expectations that their 2017 record Heartless generates and needs to fulfill. I already heard them mentioned as worthy followers to the late Black Sabbath. A pretty wild assumption in my book. Besides, people dearly like to use the latter’s name in vain.  [...]  Got hooked? King Goat – Conduit (2016) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - King Goat - Conduit - Album CoverI did not even like the record at first when I discovered the disc some time around spring break last year. Too loud, too chaotic, too unharmonious. Take that, unknown record! So, all its wonders more or less intact, the dish got shelved quickly and brutally. And continued to collect dust ever since, sent to oblivion to rot forever.

But then, some magic sun ray appeared [weird music playing]. And the 2016 début full length album Conduit from the UK band King Goat returned to some inkling of good graces. The album even received a first listen. Now, get this: The feeling was still of chaotic, unnerving disharmony, but surely of a pretty good musicianship at the same time. And a disturbing sense of a confusing, but steady flow and fuzzy flavors of stoner-esque doomy melodies. [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!
