Ha! May 2024’s crop seems to yield a fair amount of Trad and Heavy Metal. Young bands with a desire to keep the flame of the spirit of the wizened old warhorses alive and start leading the charge. Greyhawk – for instance – just got a review on RMR and it was a revelation.

The RMR crew likes itself a good piece of dissonance from time to time. And this April 2024, there are two of them on the menu. Kvadrat – in a subdued kind of way – and the German band Maere with their debut …And The Universe Keeps Silent.

Disconcerting and unsettling nuances lead down this thorny road usually reserved for trve metalheads who like to wallow in darkness and misery. In other words, the adepts of the light will simply faint once you hit play. There’s no happy note where this particular left-hand path’s acolytes are heading.

Well, what kind of strange fish have we caught ourselves today? A record the old geezers over at the review desk downloaded because – the artwork intrigued them. And we were greeted with the story of Jasmine. Or something. An unknown outfit called Kronowski with a start date of 2020, boasting typical SoCal feel-good rock fare, complete with an overly sweetish sugary coating and a chipmunk voice spewing dark-ish lyrics at ye. And that, even if the artist hails from Georgia which is – incidentally – on the other side of the US.

Alright. I am joining Bokassa‘s club-friendly universe from nowhere-land. RMR, the revenant who has no idea what horse this band rode in on. Because – for some reason – our review pipe failed us and All Out of Dreams eloped to somewhere else. Until today, that is.
