This is going to be a first: RMR promoting a record containing a whopping five intros1, plus a master overture at the very beginning. Some of that stuff dwells outrageously far out in fairyland and is in part so bad you just want to slam the door shut in their face.

But you won’t, believe me. Because this whole magic brew somehow sticks to you like goo from the abyss and won’t let you go until you have surrendered your soul to it.

Antyra and their debut studio full-length album Pentachronist will do that to you. Chaotic, scratchy, dissonant, blackened – [...] Click to raid more!

Then judging by their about-face they made with In Control away from their Gothic Metal laden style displayed in Mana, it does not bode well for future records (and boy did I love Mana…). Now The Quiet Resistance held loads of dark promise. But what about their newest and 4th full length album Uprise? And after [...] Click to raid more!

It is really difficult to find good, new bands – fresh blood, if you will – still active in the Gothic Metal playing ground these days. Most were already covered, and they are legion.

And we heard and saw it all, didn’t we?

The ubiquitous female front, the painted, black-clad band. Pretty much all sound-alikes, projecting stereotypes, wanting to achieve something that was already achieved yesterday by many and mastered by few. Right? RIGHT?

One could indeed think that this is so, but not so fast. As always, there is bad, ugly, but also good to be found in the genre. Like [...] Click to raid more!
