First impression: Talk about crispy and – yes – meaty. Very meaty! Thundering bass, scratchy, crunchy – all that jazz!

This is how the 6th studio album Dark Adrenaline of the Italian band Lacuna Coil presents itself at the opening. And with some nice and very metal tunes to boot. Or should we say ‘would like’ to present itself?

Because on the other hand, whilst definitely rocky and straightforward, the record kind of sounds like Evanescence without the lithium. Yet again, Andrea Ferro‘s interludes do undoubtedly add a lot of juice to bring that metallic counterweight to bear.

Screech!

Angela Gossow in full form and going strong, like an angry cheetah. Expert delivery of Melodic Death Metal at its best really is the specialty of Arch Enemy. And it just blasts you out of your reverie into paying attention to what is going on in your earphones.

Complex tunes established around the growls of Niilo Sevänen, just great Melodic Death Metal at its best. Like freshly ground coffee, to be enjoyed by preference in the morning as a little breakfast music. And you will find Melodic Death Metal with a Doom Death Metal component that is very pronounced. But … [...] Click to raid more!

I know, okay? You hardcore fans would like to have Angela Gossow back. But you know what? Ain’t gonna happen, and Alissa White-Gluz is pretty good and spits these lyrics out quite aggressively herself.

Young Alissa was hand-picked (so I am told), whisked unceremoniously away from her old gig The Agonist by Gossow to take over after she departed from active duty. The latter still appears to remain the manager of the band, though. And hey, if you want her back, just switch back to albums like Khaos Legion, which is a pretty cool piece of work by itself.[...] Click to raid more!
