RockmusicRaider Review - Nirvana - Nevermind - Album CoverSometimes it is tough to give the past a real hard and unforgiving look. Especially when it comes to emotionally laden and much hyped-about albums like Nevermind from the long defunct band Nirvana. And there are emotions galore in and surrounding this album. Not to forget the band in particular.

On top, one would think that pretty much all was already said, written or otherwise dispensed of in relation to this album. In books, films and in endless, sometimes contradicting articles on the news or on the never-forgetting internet. Or was it? So, it is somewhat of a challenging task to get a few critical words out into the open that others did not yet cover ad nauseam.Got hooked? Raid this some more...

Epica – The Holographic Principle (2016) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Epica - The Holographic Principle - Album Cover

Epica are known for their penchant towards super-epic, somewhat overstuffed and choir-heavy productions. Starting as a Symphonic and Gothic Metal outfit with the astonishing The Phantom Agony, the band slowly evolved towards an orchestral laden, bombastic style that left many of their earlier fans confused in their wake. Over the last years we have seen many of the major players in this genre move into a similar – if not the same – direction. Which means that what should be innovation turns out to be the new mainstream of sorts. It is a little like this drive to political correctness, where nobody likes to step outside the boundaries of the comfort zone.Got hooked? Raid this some more...

Revenience – Daedalum (2016) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Revenience - Daedalum - Album CoverWheel of the Devil, huh?  Welcome to Zoetropia. Meaning the Daedalum, featuring a round device with slits giving the impression of moving images when actioned. Officially invented in the 1800’s and patented by a number of crafty bastards, all claiming glory for themselves. When others (way) before them already attempted this feat. But it is a nice touch to name Revenenience‘s début album thus, ’cause the devil is always lurking somewhere in the background in this type of #metal.

Bologna-based Revenience formed back in 2014. This whilst already working on their first album Daedalum, drawing on material from their already rich musical careers.

And Daedalum takes its influences!

Lacuna Coil – Delirium (2016) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Lacuna Coil - Delirium - Album CoverLooks like it takes an asylum visit and some lineup changes to kick things up a notch. After the two somewhat swell deliveries Lacuna Coil mustered before, the band now lets loose their newest full length album Delirium this spring 2016 with renewed gusto. And it is some gusto, I can tell ya.

What a change compared to Broken Crown Halo of 2014: This newly invented style is astonishingly good in more ways than one and an amazing feat pulling off such a record in a very reasonable time scale. Loud, screechy, scratchy, dirty, but still inarguably Lacuna Coil, they forge forward without looking left or right. Got hooked? Raid this some more...

Lacuna Coil – Dark Adrenaline (2012) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Lacuna Coil - Dark Adrenaline - Album CoverFirst impression: Talk about crispy and – yes – meaty. Very meaty! Low bass, scratchy, corny – all that jazz! This is how the 6th studio album ‘Dark Adrenaline’ of the Italian band ‘Lacuna Coil’ presents itself at the opening. And with some nice and very #Metal tunes to booth. Or should we say ‘would like’ to present itself? Because on the other hand, whilst definitely rocky and straightforward, it kind of sounds like ‘Evanescence‘ without lithium and on steroids.

And this is how best to describe Dark Adrenaline: A rocky, kind of stormy way of presenting Gothic Metal in a robe pleasing to them masses that judge ye so harshly.Got hooked? Raid this some more...
