Ba'al - Soft Eyes - Album Cover

I vaguely remember Ba’al‘s Ellipsism floating by on the now-defunct Clobber Records in 2020. But – sadly – the time wasn’t right for their enigmatic wares four years back and we gave the record a pass. And, perhaps, we shouldn’t have done that. But then, hindsight is always 20/20, right?

So, the other day, the RMR Deck Crew got ahold of the band’s new EP Soft Eyes. Especially Ba’al‘s insistence on Blackened Post Metal and visions of those funky wares on offer these days got our curiosity going.

Well, Ba’al‘s style is still as enigmatic as … [...] Click to raid more!

Iterum Nata - From The Infinite Light - Album Cover

Do you know why I like myself a session with Leonard Cohen from time to time? Because this long-departed artist exudes a calm and welcome respite from the hectic search-and-review missions across all those metal genres out there. His age-old records offer some private time of respite and introspection. Something we should have more of in these dangerous times.

Now, Cohen’s style might sound somewhat similar to some of Dark Folk outfits on this zine. Some of the more ethereal pieces of similar ilk firmly had their stakes in Black Metal before and suddenly feel the need to call upon … [...] Click to raid more!

Kollapse - AR - Album Cover

Do you still remember Sult‘s terrible visage devoid of skin? You know, the totally terrified look of some unfortunate human being enduring atrocious torture and not knowing what comes next? Yes, that guy. Well, it looks like somebody just tried to cover this up and reconstitute the facial features. Only, they did a total fuck job and the scarred tissue ain’t pretty in its pinkish horror. Welcome to Bedlam. Scream at me, Kollapse. If you still can do so without a mouth, that is. Ouch, endless pain ahead.

To get things straight. AR – the title of the … [...] Click to raid more!

Inver - On This Earth - Album Cover

It’s the bleak album cover that made it happen. The successful arrival of Inver‘s debut album On This Earth at our review pipe’s doorstep, that is. And – I guess – the fact that the record aired mid-January when everything is should be frozen helped a bit, too. Melancholy galore, no end in sight for the ceaseless wintery depression. So, we got ourselves fertile grounds for doomy musings on sunless days, one would think.

But then – nada. The record continued to fester unmolested by prying eyes in the sumpy realms of our datafeed. Because whenever we fired the … [...] Click to raid more!
